As most San Diegans know, we used to be part of Mexico... and we are about a 30 minute drive away from the lovely drug kingdom of Tiujana. However, I'd like to point out a few misconceptions about the names of roads, cities, etc., and provide some translations for you!
La Jolla Cove - This is really stupid. What they are trying to say is "The Jewel". Unfortunately, in Spanish, "jewel" is spelt "joya." And please, for those of you tourists, "Jolla" is not pronounced like the word "jolly." It is pronounced, "hoya."
Los Angeles - It's not too hard to figure this one out, but for those of you who are dull, this means "the angels." Kind of ironic, considering what a crap hole it is. I swear, if the Germans invaded, the wall of traffic alone would keep them out for at least a month.
Del Mar - Literally meaning, "of the sea." "Del" is a combo of the word "de", meaning "of", and "el" meaning "the". Mar, of course, means "ocean", or "Sea."
Las Vegas - Meaning "the fertile plain." Pff, no kidding... anyone ever been to the Monte Carlo?
Escondio - I assume this is a combo of the phrase "Es condido", which means "It's hidden."
Chula Vista - Looked it up... it means "Rascal View". Cute.
El Cajon - Meaning "the drawer". Like... a sock drawer. Freaky.

Hm. I thought La Jolla was named after native americans. I have no idea where I heard it, it's just one of those things I've always remembered.
(And I like LA. It's where I want to go to college.)
Yeah... but I hate the traffic. Really, I do. It's a deep hate.
