So, in English tomorrow we're going to start this big project on a "controversial topic." As most of my friends will tell you, I am sort of a. . . politically incorrect type-a-gal, but I managed to pick a topic that wouldn't get me killed by fellow students, and that I was pretty passionate about.
Marine parks! That's right. Till I was about 8 years old, I used to visit SeaWorld practically every weekend. I was obsessed with dolphins, and I dreamed of becoming a trainer one day. (I no longer desire to pursue that particular carreer, but marine animals and the park itself still holds a special place in my heart.)
Most people will tell you that keeping whales, dolphins, seals and other marine animals in captivity is cruel, but I feel that showcasing their talents (many forms of which have been proven that animals sometimes teach themselves on their own for fun, is a good way to teach people about their lifestyles, and to raise awareness for endangered animals. At SeaWorld, many of the animals, such as manatees and dolphins, have been taken from the ocean after being seriously injured. After curing and healing them (often times from otherwise fatal injuries), they showcase them in exhibits and/or shows since they can no longer care for themselves in the wild.
I won't go into extreme detail here (it's only a blog) but that's what I've decided to write about. Peace out!
