Twilight vs. Harry Potter, BEGONE!

That's right, ladies and gentlemen. I think it can now be fully said that I fully do enjoy Twilight.

For those of you who are going . . . "Yeah....Why? Are we supposed to care?"

Well, you don't have to, but I figured I'd just come out and say it.

I first read Twilight when I was 14, and I thought it was okay, but actually never QUITE finished it. Then a few months ago, I was going to a bridal shower for some distant cousin, and figured I would be bored, so (since Twilight was starting to get really popular) I figured I should try and get through it this time, as I had enjoyed what I had already read. I finished Twilight in a week, and New Moon in exactly one week following. (Which, other than Harry Potter, was the fastest I'd ever read a book [at least, the length that Twilight was]). Eclipse took me a bit longer, but mostly because I had school, and I had homework, ya know? A life, as some people call it.

But, my raging Harry Potter obsession got really aggressively territorial. It didn't like that this "Twilight" thing was getting so popular, claiming that it was "The New Harry Potter". The young, hip, romantic version that would soon kick Harry off into oblivion. (Megan, I know you're dying with the nerdiness of this post. DEAL WITH IT!)

It took me a while to get over it. I was sort of pissed that Twilight was so popular. Actually, it wasn't even that it was popular. It was that people actually believed that it was better than Harry Potter. THIS comment made me shoot out some pretty nasty commentary on the books, writing and plots. (Truthfully, I still don't like Bella, even though I desperately want to. She's selfish and unbelievably snobby.)

But, now I have finally figured out that it's not worth my energy trying to dumb down the Twilight fandom. Twilight is and will never be the empire of Harry Potter, and Harry will stand the blow of time, while Twilight might very well dwindle into one of those old dusty "Nancy Drew" type series' that you find in the back of the teen section. (I hope it doesn't . . . it's pretty good for what it is, considering Anne Rice did the same thing like 50 years ago.)

So, I have changed the background picture on my YouTube account from a picture of Harry and Hermione in the Goblet of Fire, to a picture of the Cullens. I know, scary. . . never thought I'd do it! I also bought myself a Twilight keychain when I went to the bookstore today to buy The Tales of Beedle the Bard (will blog about that later), which would be considered the highest form of blasphemy, like, two months ago.

So . . . yeah. If you want to see it, here it is.
